How Do I Hire a Doula? When beginning the search for your doula, it’s very important to keep in mind that finding a doula you are comfortable with and feel a connection to is essential. There are several sources available for locating a doula in your area. Start out by simply calling the doula and asking a few questions over the phone. If you’d like to learn more about each doula, schedule an interview. The doula should meet both of the parents-to-be. At the interview, you can ask the doula any questions you have concerning her services. This is your chance to get a feel for the doula’s style and see if you feel comfortable with her. The more comfortable you are with your doula, the better your experience will be, and the more she will be able to assist you. The doula will also ask you questions about what you are looking for in a doula, and what your needs and expectations are. Once you have chosen a doula, the next step is to agree on the service and schedule desired. These are typically flexible, as a family’s needs are subject to change once the baby arrives. A contract may be signed and a deposit may be required to hold your scheduled time with the doula. Postpartum doulas typically work with families immediately after birth, once the baby and mother are home from the hospital. Service varies from a few hours a day several times a week to full time care. The service period can last up to 12 weeks postpartum. Currently First Connections only provides evening and weekend support for new families. Please feel free to contact me to discuss flexibility, we may be able to make something work! Current prices are $20 per hour. About the DoulaFirst Connections Doula Services currently is made up of just one doula: Rindy. I have had a passion for motherhood ever since I had my own little girl back in 2004. Being a part of that amazing experience sparked a fascination in me for mothers, babies and parenthood, inspiring me to begin training for a career as a doula. I am now a certified postpartum doula (DONA), and I am also certified in CPR (American Heart Association) and trained in lactation management. As a doula, I hope to help new mothers with the transition into motherhood. While it is the most rewarding journey, it is also a hard journey. I want to make that journey just a little easier by sharing information and dispelling common myths about babies and motherhood. |
